Where Is Connagh’s Quay Anyway?

SPF Finals Day 14th May 2011

The weather, as always on Finals Day, was lovely, and I was tempted to go out taking photographs rather than spend the afternoon looking at them - but I’m so glad I didn’t!

If you have never been to a Finals Day you have missed a real treat, the opportunity to see the best work from the SPF League competitions.

First up were the PDIs, there was some really cracking stuff much appreciated by our judge for the day, Martin Faiers.

Sadly our entry, Chris Neill-Griffin’s “Battling the Smoke”, didn’t make it through to the final few but she is to be congratulated for making it through to the day.

We had rather more success in the print competition. David Toft’s “Elephants Fighting” gained a well deserved Highly Commended.

The competition was really stiff, and I was on the edge of my seat as Martin whittled them down to the final few. Well done David!

As if we hadn’t had excitement enough there was more to come! Every year the PAGB hosts a competition at Connagh’s Quay, each Federation is invited to send 2 clubs to represent them. Chichester had already qualified, due to their success last year, but now we had to decide which of the other clubs would attend.

Fordingbridge, Havant, Highcliffe & Infinity, Ordnance Survey, Southampton and New Forest were the clubs competing for the honour this year. It was no surprise that the standard of work was very high, these were the winning panels from each of the divisions after all, and in the end only 4.5 points separated the highest and lowest scoring panels.

Sadly, despite Maureen’s “Wheels on Tour” scoring 9.5 and David’s “Elephants Fighting” scoring 10, we will not be going forward to represent the Federation, but congratulations and good luck to Fordingbridge, worthy winners on the day.

The good news? I don’t have to navigate my way to Connagh’s Quay, wherever it may be!

Cheryl
